Content and Sponsorships

November 9, 2025 @ 13:29

I recently got an email from a company, asking about some form of partnership on a future project. This company is also one of the manybe 3-5 that I would actually feel alright talking positively about in a video, though I'm also not sure how to feel.

For a while I've wanted to completely push out the idea of doing sponsorships as a whole. My YouTube channel is for my art and creations, and I don't like the idea of injecting advertising into them. Additionally, I don't consider myself a video creator first, instead calling myself a game developer with video making as more of a fun side hobby, rather than a job.

I've always disliked the idea of becoming too corporate, especially after a friend of mine tried to exploit me for his own monetary gain (I don't talk to him anymore). I want to be genuine with people who watch my videos, and I don't know how I can be when being paid to talk about something. Even if I only receive a product or service, I can't really be truthful about the value of it to me unless I spend that money myself and can confidently recommend others do so.

I can't decide how I want this to go, because again, they're one of few companies I would actually consider talking about, but I don't want making videos to be my job, nor do I want to ruin the sanctity of my own creations by turning them into advertisements. It's a fun thing I do on the side because I like to do it. Maybe I'm reading too far into it, but I just don't want to go near the same path my former friend did. Becoming another MrBeast seems like the quickest way to suck all the fun out of having fun. I want to be free to do or say what I want, and share my genuine thoughts and feelings in my own art.

(Plus, if people want to pay me that's what Patreon is for-)
